You can finally give it everything. So why does it get worse the more you give it?
Our bet: today's harnesses only add. They never subtract.
Before every call, it removes what the model no longer needs.
“There needs to be someone who is the keeper and reiterator of the vision.”Steve Jobs
For agents, the blueprint is that keeper. And a drawing doesn't say "a sturdy wall". It says 220 mm thick, 2.7 m high, on gridline B. Nobody argues. Give four agents a sentence instead, even the exact same sentence, and you get four different walls.
pretool keeps intent as a blueprint: specific fields every agent reads directly and every result can be checked against. Nothing is left to interpretation.
Rules written for older models don't help newer ones. They make them second-guess and overthink.
“We deleted 80% of the system prompt … Now Opus 5 just does it.”Boris Cherny, Claude Code · YC Startup Podcast, Jul 2026
Example audit
Cleaned before it reaches the model and before it's cached, so nothing stale gets locked in.
The blueprint is updated in place. A new decision replaces the old one instead of piling a note on top.
Get A and B right and context stays small on its own.
